All Americans who appreciate their freedom to have pets should comment. This may only affect big snake keepers now, but any species could be the next target. The entire pet community is being picked apart as we are not supporting each other in protecting our freedoms. Support your pet and reptile community and comment today!
Over 80 million American households have pets. Over five million of those have pet reptiles. There should be tens or hundreds of thousands of comments made against adding additional species to the Constrictor Rule. This needs to be shared!
Below are Talking Points, comment links, mailing address, sample letter, FAQ and more.
Deadline is July 24 (no extension): Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is taking additional comments regarding listing five species of snakes (Boa constrictor, Reticulated python, DeSchauensee’s anaconda, Green anaconda and Beni anaconda) as injurious under the Lacey Act. These species were originally proposed in 2010. If listed, FWS would ban interstate transportation/commerce and importation. Remember to be professional and civil with your comments.
Please take a moment to comment on this. The herp hobby has come under intense fire the last few years and it’s only getting worse. If the HSUS, through USFW, successfully gets these species added to the Lacey Act we are in serious trouble. They are pushing these additions despite overwhelming scientific evidence that these animals are no threat to humans or to US ecosystems outside the southern tip of Florida. They are taking a state problem and attempting to punish the entire nation for it.
For me, if they are successful in adding these animals, it means that I will no longer be able to send out or ship in animals from other states. It means that if for whatever reason I had to move out of Texas in the future, I couldn’t take my animals with me. It means that if my vet was over state lines I couldn’t take my animals to him. If this passes, I would be required by law to get rid of every single one of my boas before crossing state lines or risk being convicted of a felony (jail time, my animals euthanized), simply for doing what a responsible pet owner should do. This is unacceptable and quite frankly, horrifying. So please, if you keep exotics, or any pets for that matter, please stand up and speak out while you still can. They’re not going to stop with snakes.
So many laws that need to be made and they attack pet owners instead of something important. So dumb
